exotic hardwood
BELIGNUM extracts, saws and directly imports all exotic hardwood types from Africa, Asia and South America and prepares them for further trading on the European market.
Own concession & extraction
In Cameroon BELIGNUM has its own concession of a large number of hectares of forest. Furthermore, over the years we have developed a broad network in both Asia and Latin America and throughout the African continent. Therefore we always have direct access to the types of hardwood that you need.
In Cameroon we select the trees that we wish to cut down ourselves; our own experts fell them. They ensure that this is done safely and always take care that the trunk experiences only minimal impact when it falls, so that the integrity of the wood structure is preserved. In Asia and Latin America, we work together with carefully selected partners for the extraction.
Own management
In Africa we have several sawmills and warehouses under our own management. We always employ locals, all of them people who grew up near the forests that we sustainably exploit.
It is precisely because we do everything under our own management, from extraction to processing and transport, that we can deliver quickly and efficiently, and can guarantee the quality of our hardwood from Africa, Asia or Latin America at all times.
Stockholding & close to everywhere
In Mouscron BELIGNUM has a particularly large storage capacity, good for a vast stock and over forty types of wood that are available on demand. All of our wood stocks are stored under cover for further processing or delivery. In 2018 our site in Mouscron was fully renovated and it is now equipped with the most modern facilities, including high-performance loading and unloading docks that ensure an efficient workflow.
We are located at a motorway interchange, less than two hours´ drive from the port of Antwerp and very close to the French border.
And we handle all the logistics by ourselves. This gives us total control over the entire process and we can adapt immediately as necessary.
Processing for the European market
The trunks are subject to strict quality control in our sawmills. Suitable parts are expertly sawed for shipping.
As soon as the planks arrive in our Belgian warehouses, they undergo a full extra quality control and they are further processed in order to make them ready for use. Drying, modifying, impregnating, sawing to length, planing… all the processing that is required depending on the type of wood and/or the application.
In-house logistics
We organize the transport of the wood from our warehouses to the customers with our own trucks and external transporters.
Legality
Each shipment that we import into Europe is subject to extensive due diligence with in-depth analysis. Only with a positive result do we give the green light for importing.
